The five Sixth Form routes
By Student Support, Guidance · 18 July 2026 · 1 min read

After sixteen, Kings offers five Sixth Form routes. Families choose the one that matches the student’s strengths and the universities or colleges they have in mind. Counselling sits inside the same school, whichever route they take.
A Level and International A Level
A Level is a deep course in a few subjects, usually taken over two years. It suits students who can sustain reading, problem sets, and a long written paper. International A Level offers the same depth for students who need international papers.
BTEC
BTEC is coursework-led. Students work through assignment briefs, collect evidence, and present what they can do. The counselling around it is the same counselling an A Level student receives: what the qualification is for, and which universities or employers recognise it.
Ontario and American diplomas
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma and the American High School Diploma serve students aiming at Canadian or US-style pathways. Credit planning, live teaching, and application guidance belong to the same school week as every other Sixth Form route.
Subject choices are made before the timetable is locked, for the route the student will actually sit.
